ANDRÉ SANTOS

The project consists of the renovation and conversion of a building located in a historic Lisbon neighborhood. The intervention focuses on the transformation of a multiple family building into a single family house with a small office on the ground floor.

 

The site of the building is located on the slope of one of Lisbon's hills, more precisely at Principe Real, and from the top floor, one can have a partial view over the city.

 

The strategy for the intervention is quite straightforward, the building is divided into 3 floors and each floor represents a different aspect of the day to day living habits: a social, a private and a working area. On the ground floor, a reception hall and a small office, which can function independently of the rest of the house; on the first floor the bedrooms and the connection to an existing backyard; the second floor, the social area of the house,  the living room and an open kitchen. Both with access to four small balconies where one can have a wide view over the city.

 

On the outside, the main facade is restored to keep the original design, keeping the Portuguese tiles over the windows as they were (due to the bad state of some of this tiles, some have to be reproduced as the original ones). The remaining elements are painted white.
